Time to Soar to New Heights

Recently I had an amazing chance to be up close, to some of the most stunning Birds of Prey in the world. The experience literally brought me to tears. The grace and beauty of these incredible Birds astounded me. I was in total awe as I watched the largest Eagle to the smallest Peregrine Falcon all fly freely in their natural surroundings. The bond between falconer and bird was second to none and every single bird returned, showing the trust that has been built up.

The event opened with ‘Lucy,’ a stunning Falcon, who had been let off to fly freely half an hour prior. As she soared to 500 feet she was just a tiny speck amongst the brilliant blue sky. She was free, she was having the time of her life and she was doing what came naturally. I kept my eyes on her, straining my neck and shielding my eyes from the sun, if I looked away for even a second, I had to retrain my eyes to find her again. Then she began her descent. She was ready to come back to earth, but in her time and at her speed. Being up so high, she couldn’t possibly have just come diving straight down. She flew in huge concentric circles, around and around coming lower with every turn. She slowly became more than a speck in the sky, I could see the flash of her wings as she glided and turned. Lower and lower she came, I held my breath as the free fall started, then a flash of wings and she spun, taking another loop to slow her fall down.

I kept my eyes trained on her, I didn’t want to miss a minute of this beautiful show, nor did I want to miss the moment that she gently alighted onto her trainers gloved hand. She had chosen to come down from 500 feet, she knew that she would be safe and loved. She already knows that she is admired and adored. She took her time and enjoyed the journey along the way. Round and round, but in circles that made sense. Ever decreasing circles that neared her goal.

Her goal was home, safety, food and love. For us they may be in a different order, but whichever way you put them the results are the same. Fly free, set your goals. Soar to the new heights you need to, follow your dreams, enjoy your journey with every twist and turn. If you find yourself in a spin, take time to reset. Remember, it is your journey. How you choose to live it is up to you. Go have some fun, make your own rules, put your head in the clouds. When you need to re ground yourself, put your roots further down into the earth and breathe.
